Exchange City Summer Camp

Exchange City Summer Camp is for kids ages 10-16 years
old. The camp was created as a response to the need for quality
summer camps in general and, specifically, for all of the parents
and children who have asked for more ways to "come to Exchange
City". The five-day camp targets skills in the areas of math,
communications, analytical thinking, teamwork, citizenship and personal
finance. The Exchange City Summer Camp is designed so that children
who have never attended Exchange City will have a successful and
unique experience, while those who have attended will have a fresh
and totally different experience. The new career and role opportunities
at Exchange City Summer Camp include:

Campers become Exchange City citizens and entrepreneurs who:

Operate retail shops, financial institution, broadcast center,
technology shop, newspaper and a chamber of commerce.
Earn paychecks
and learn how to spend and manage money.
Research
and apply for careers in business and government.
Engage
in community service and charitable giving.
Create
and price products and servcies for their own businesses.
The Summer Camp Week
Exchange City Summer Camp sessions last a full week (Monday - Friday).
Some Summer Camp sites have chosen to expand their hours for before
and after-camp care.
Monday:
Campers determine the needs of a community and develop businesses
that address those needs; campers exploring careers and do self-assessments;
campers writing resumes, practice job interviewing skills and are
hired.
Concepts and skills include: analyzing functions in a community,
developing business plans, creating a corporate community, career
exploration, resume writing, interviewing for jobs, teamwork.
Tuesday: Campers begin work in their businesses; campers
set up their personal and corporate accounts, get business cards,
plan their goods and services and investigate business growth strategies
through partnerships.
Concepts and skills include: time management, personal finance,
corporate finance, partnerships, corporate culture, legal agreements
and contracts, business etiquette, marketing.
Wednesday: Campers are introduced to the concept of corporate
giving; campers analyze and improve their partnerships; campers
market their final products and services and begin operations of
the City.
Concepts and skills include: charitable giving, negotiation, research,
business writing, product and service pricing, contract management,
presentation skills, relationship building, operating a business.
Thursday:
Campers operate the City; campers prepare for Friday's business
conference.
Concepts and skills include: running all aspects of a city, being
producers and consumers, adjusting pricing and production, paying
off a loan, giving dividends and bonuses, reviewing best practices,
determining continuous improvement opportunities.
Friday: Campers hold a business conference where they
present their best practices and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Concepts and skills include: writing, public speaking, stakeholder
relations, community relations, collaboration, influencing, decision-making,
community service.
